World Cup Fever! Local Georgetown restaurant Peacock Cafe (3251 Prospect St., NW Washington, DC) celebrates the FIFA World Cup by offering South African cuisine during the games. From June 11 to July 11, the Georgetown hotspot will be serving a menu featuring both American and South African dishes for local patrons who want an up close and personal seat at the bar. The restaurant has two high definition televisions and will be airing all the games throughout the day, accompanied by classic South African dishes like Beef Bobotie, a curry and meat dish served with yellow rice and a side of mango chutney, Karoo Lamb Pie, South African stuffed mushrooms and Vetkoek, puffy bread filled with meat and cheese. Executive Chef Maziar Farivar will give the restaurant’s usual Small Plates menu a kick by adding sports bar favorites such as mini burgers, beef hot dogs and smoked ham mac and cheese. Peacock is also offering fresh pastries to patrons setting their alarms early enough to enjoy the early games.
