We Failed 3 TIMES!!!

Van’s been talking about heading to Leopold’s Kafe that’s hidden in Cady’s Alley in Georgetown for some time now.  Every time we pass by it, we say how we need to go there, but never do.   I’m not quite sure why we’ve never made it there before and this past Monday was the exception. But the story that led us to Leopold’s Kafe is as follows:

So on Labor day, Van and I decided to hang out for the day and take it easy with just a movie (Inglorious Basterds to be exact).  It somehow evolved from just a simple day at the movies with just the 2 of us, to a food finding scavenger hunt with Paul and David as well.

I wanted to take all of them to EatBar in Arlington, Va since I knew none of them have been there and that Paul would love it.  As we are walking up we quickly found out that the place was closed and was not opening until 4:00.  The time we got there was 3:35.  So we had 2 oppositions; wait for them to open, or go somewhere else.  We chose to go somewhere else.  So we piled back into David’s car and started to think of other places to go.  Somewhere down the line after we had already agreed to go somewhere, Van opens his mouth and mentions Marvin in the U st. corridor of DC.  We all get excited for some good ol’ chicken and waffles and started heading there.  Upon arriving at Marvin, in the RAIN may I note, we find out that they too are closed!  So we walk our wet, hungry, sad, and defeated selves over to Eatonville which is just one block away from Marvin.  When we came across Eatonville, a bit of hope came upon us because we were able to actually step inside…but only to be told that they were closed until 5:00!!!!! WE MANAGED TO FAIL 3 TIMES IN LESS THAN 30 MINUTES LOOKING FOR SOME DAMN FOOD! After that, we walked our even wetter, more hungry, sadder, and ultimately defeated selves over to Busboys and Poets because we knew that place was for sure open.  And that is how Paul’s entry on Busboys and Poets came to be.

While finishing up at Busboys, we decided that instead of eating dessert there, we would walk around for a bit and go to a little cafe or patisserie along the way.  Well…with keeping with the whole FAILING theme of the day, we did not find any that were open around the areas we were walking in.  We, however, did find Hana Japanese Market (note Paul’s entry on Hana).  So we eventually head back to the car to bring Paul back home since he needed to be back by a certain time.

After dropping off Paul we head into Georgetown to go to the cinema for Inglorious Basterds (badass movie BTW).  We had a good hour or so to kill before the movie so that’s when the three remaining amigos decide to go to Leopold’s Kafe for desserts.

So yeah, that’s how we ended up at Leopold’s Kafe that rainy Labor Day Monday.

While at Leopold’s Kafe I ,of course, order a coffee drink that goes by some complicated name that I can’t remember and would never be able to pronounce even if I did.  All I remember is that it was Austrian coffee and that they served it with whipped cream instead of the plain old boring cream known as half-and-half!

For our desserts, Van got the Milano which I managed to somehow trick him into thinking that that dish was mine, so I actually ate it instead of him.  And I must say, Van makes good choices when it comes to picking desserts :-P   David got the Mohr im Hemd, a flourless chocolate mousse that’s baked and served with coffee ice cream.  And I actually ordered the Praline Mousse that was also very delicious, but Van ate it instead of me.  I kinda wish that I didn’t get our desserts confused when they came out because I thought to myself when I was eating Van’s dish, that I liked the one that he had more than mine! haha, serves me right for tricking him! Van also wanted me to note that he was secretly angry with me for tricking him (even though I know he’s really not).

So we will be making Leopold’s Kafe a regular after dinner spot from now on.  And hopefully we will not fail each an every time we attempt to go there!

I also want to add that they have more than just desserts and coffee drinks at Leopold’s.  They also serve other foods as well such as salads and other light fares.
