DCSocialite blogger, Van, had the chance t
o check out Ultimate Chicken Bistro, shortly after their opening. I’ve since had the chance to give Ultimate Chicken a taste and it’s still as fantastic as when it opened.
I should probably start by saying that I visited Ultimate between 7pm and 7:15pm on a Sunday night (they close at 8pm). While most restaurant workers would groan at the sight of patrons less than an hour of closing, instead, I was greeted cheerfully by my hostess/ server. Based on Van’s review, I knew I had to try the Korean-style fried chicken. I was with one other person so we split a full order of 15 wings. When the chicken arrived at the table, they were dressed in a sumptuous soy garlic glaze with an accompaniment of two dipping sauces, one mild and one spicy. The wings were delightfully crispy despite the dressing, which, in any other case would have been soggy.
In addition to the wings, I got two sides: the mac and cheese and fries. If there was a downside to these, it was that they were inconsistent in quality. The mac and cheese was lukewarm and the sauce was grainy. I’m not sure if the mac and cheese was homemade but did spy a chef in UCB’s open air-style kitchen carefully plate the mac and cheese from a saucepan, so it could be anyone’s guess. The fries on the other hand were crispy and gently tossed in some spices, elevating them above just a second class side dish.
Would I come back to Ultimate Chicken Bistro? Absolutely. Am I brave enough to venture into the other chicken varieties, like Chicken Cordon Bleu or Chicken Parmesan? Not sure about that one, but I do know that the Korean Fried Chicken is a winner winner chicken dinner.
