Midtown DC

Formally Play Lounge Midtown had its grand opening this weekend. I got there pretty early about 10:30 which was perfect because it was not to crowded yet. The club has a really high class European feel. Midtown’s environment feels very welcoming with the subtle lighting. I have never been in a lounge with lighting that allowed you to see while still making everyone look pretty. The only downside to Midtown is the size. I wish it could be bigger.

They have new Sky Box which is coll as it is separated from the rest of the crowd. It holds two tables and just looks cool. Its like a mini balcony that would be great for people watching.

The crowd of Midtown is similar to its neighbor Current.  Most everyone is dressed well and most are good looking. This place is pretty bouji which is normal for this crowd. I will have to say the best thing about this club would be the service at the door. As you are walking in the hosts and bouncers all say welcome to Midtown. This is a nice change to DC nightclubs which is not a city known for it’s customer service.

The mixed drinks are 10$ dollars and up which is normal for Midtown. Overall Michael Romeo did a great job of updating Play into a better looking lounge. It provides a great hangout spot for people in the area and I look forward to spending some time in there. For a rating I give it an 8 out of 10. The only problem with Midtown is that it can get overcrowded so fast and becomes a little overwhelming at times.

DC City Blog review of Midtown – DC

Midtown is a new club / lounge in the Dupont Circle area that is basically a 2.0 version of Play. They turned the venue around pretty rapidly and my sense is that the Michael Romeo group are looking to capitalize on the growing demand for more of an upscale lounge environment with table service that has been taking place in DC. Whether they have actually created a sustainable venue remains questionable but it is worth mentioning that in it’s infancy, Midtown is drawing some serious numbers and already generating a buzz as one of the next hot spots in DC.
