Mate is located under the Whitehurst freeway on K st.  Mate is not really a restaurant and not really a club.  Mate is a good mix of both which puts it in the lounge category.  The ambiance at this place is pretty cool.  They always have attractive people working and eating there which is always a plus.  If you are going to go to Mate I would dress up as they have a very strict dress code.  This is not necessarily a bad thing as it keeps the clientele at a higher end.  Mate has a lot of different things to offer that  you really do not get at most places. You have really good sushi along with an outstanding drink selection.

Once you get past the door Mate is huge and beautiful inside.  The bar is to the left and the seating is scattered on both sides.  Mate’s ceilings are high and the lighting is futuristic.  The music is always good at this lounge and there is usually a live DJ.

Mate has a very special quality.  The mojitos are amazing!  Mate has an exceptional selection of flavored mojitos which are all great.  My favorite mojito is the coconut mojito mmmm.  Mate DC also has really good Martinis that are not so bad at about 7-10 dollars.

The sushi at Mate is phenomenal.  I really enjoy it.  They have a lot of different types.  Some of their sushi is very orignal others is the norm. They also have really good ceviche my favorite was the tuna.  Although Mate does not have an extensive menu the menu they do provide is full of flavor.  However Mate would not be e place to go if you are starving as the portions are small.

My favorite thing about Mate lounge is the happy hour.  It only last from 5-7 but you can get some cheap high quality sushi.  All the sushi is half prices and so are the drinks.

Mate is a cool place to go after work or before you go out partying.  It can also be a great place to take a date.  I like Mate because of it diversity and that its just cool.
