We recently had a DCsocialite meeting and somehow we ended up exchanging stories about funny things that have happened to us in the city. Being that the following experience happened to a me fairly recently, I figured I should write the first “DC Socialite City Tale”. The story below describes an interesting experience I had on the Circulator.
While reading the story you must play the music video below, it makes the story much better.
A few weekends ago I took the Circulator from Rosslyn Metro to Dupont Circle for a drinking escapade. I had a few beers before getting on the bus, so I was a little tipsy. I got on the bus there were only 4 or 5 people on it, so I thought this would be a quiet ride. Of course, I was wrong. When we hit the first stop in Georgetown, 4 girls from a local college (could have been Georgetown or GWU) got on with a bottle of red Gatorade. They were by no means sober and were gradually getting more intoxicated by taking swigs of the “Gatorade”. A guy on the bus was listening to music with his headphones, but it was clearly audible to everyone else. A few minutes after these girls got on, Katy Perry’s Fireworks started playing on his I-Phone. At first these girls were bouncing their heads and quietly singing. When the catchy chorus started all hell broke loose. The 4 girls went from quietly bouncing their heads, to fist pumping and balls to the wall singing. The guy noticed the mayhem and unplugged his headphones from the I-Phone making the music and the girls louder. Shortly after this, the guy with the phone and a few others (including me) began singing and fist pumping. This lasted for what seemed like 5 minutes, but was probably closer to one. When the song was over there was an awkward silence followed by some giggling. Soon after this we were in Dupont and it finally hit me, “Did that actually happen?”. Well it did, 8 or so strangers on the Circulator sang Katy Perry’s Fireworks together, and I know that Katy would be proud.
