I was walking through Georgetown and walked by Il Canale. I saw the outside seating and then was enticed to go in by a server named Eric. We went into Il Canale and I was quite surprised by the amazing decor. The bar had blue lights under which was pretty slick against all the stainless steel in the place. Il Canale is right next to the canal in Georgetown hence the name.
We sat down close to the bar so I could watch Germany dismantle Australia. Il Canale is known for its pizza which is made in their large brick oven. We got a basket of bread with garlic infused olive oil which was great. We ended ordering the calamari for appetizer and it was really good. It was light and crunchy and went so well with the lemon and tomato marinara sauce. You can see the calamari masterpiece on the right. I was eating with my father and girlfriend so we decided to get the food sort of family style. We first got the Medeterranea salad which had sheep cheese, cucumbers, vine ripe tomatoes, black olives, dilmas, and eggplants. I was really impressed with the quality of the salad it was amazing it had the perfect amount of dressing and the freshness was outstanding. We also ordered the Diavola pizza and the Georgetown pizza. The Diavola consisted of spicy salami, mozzarella, basil, and crushed red peppers. In my opinion this was the better pizza it had a subtle spiciness which really went well the meat and tomato sauce. The second pizza we got was the Georgetown which had bufala mozzarella, sausage, basil, and rapini. This pizza was not as good as the Diavola because the rapini over powered the rest of the ingredients. I still thought it was good, but I think less rapini would be better. The pizza dough was fantastic it is crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside and had great flavor. I ended up dipping the dough in the left over olive oil!
The main note I have hear is that the server Eric was fantastic. He brought a lot of conversation and knowledge to our meal. He explained the concept of the restaurant and how their oven works. He was also on top of everything having to do with service. It was some of the best service I have had in a while.
I really liked this place and recommend it to anyone that enjoys good pizza. I also recommend sitting on their outside deck if you are there on a nice day.
