I didn’t hesitate to say yes when Van asked me to see the lost interview of Steve Jobs at the E St Cinema. While crossing the G.W Parkway, I soaked in the breath taking view of the monuments overlooking the Potomac. After all of these years, I still find myself appreciating how beautiful D.C is at night.
The smell of gourmet popcorn tickled all my senses as we walked into the small but quaint E St Cinema. We managed to score some great back row seats and I couldn’t resist buying some popcorn and Ginger Ale Fanta.
My first reaction to seeing Steve Jobs at age 40 was that he reminded me of John Lennon. He sported a shaggy haircut with round rimless glasses that screamed intelligent hippy.
I was captivated by his ability to tell a story. He describes his thought process behind his actions and convinces me that there was no other possible outcome.
By the age of 24, Jobs was worth 100 million dollars and Apple was 10 years ahead of the competition. It all began with one idea and it was his courage and fearless mentality that fueled his success. He was the adventurous pioneer who industrialized the software industry.
Steve Jobs confirmed several concepts that I live by and I am thankful to have the opportunity to hear it from such a genius.
- Own your craft. Don’t expect others to create your vision.
- Find the purpose in everything you do.
- It’s not about being right all the time, but what matters is doing the right thing.
- Understand the “why” behind the why.
- In a team, you are as strong as your weakest link.
