DJ Deemo
Recently I visited Current Lounge and was partying on their party deck. It was a blast with the warm summer air and Current’s visuals. I had a great time and enjoyed the music even more. I stayed after and that’s where I met DJ Deemo who rocked the house all night long. DJ Deemo has so much energy that it radiates to the crowd. I haven’t seen a DJ move and be so into the music in a long time. Since he was such a cool DJ and gave me his card I decided to do DCsocialite.com’s first DJ review. He has some great mixes on his site and has some songs on Beatport as well. I download his most recent mix tape and I hope you all enjoy it as much as I do. I hope all of our readers enjoy it and check out some of his links at the bottom of this post
1. What was the first event you ever played at?
Tantra Lounge @ Indebleu
2. What’s is your real name if you use an alias and how old are you?
Billy DiMonte – 27
3. Where do you live?
Georgetown
4. What’s the best event you’ve played at/put on?
My birthday party (8/14) on Current’s outdoor deck was insane! The place was packed and everyone was having a blast.
5. What was your first record you bought?
Wow, I guess it would have to be Snoop’s Doggystyle. They don’t make rap like they used to.
6. What other places have you played at?
Current, Chroma, Indebleu, Lima, Lotus, Midtown, miniBar Boston, Suite and STIR. I have also made guest mixes for the Weekend Ignition and Mission Horizon radio shows on Germany’s Globalbeats.fm.
7. Out of all the tunes you have, which one ‘never fails?’
Morgan Page feat. Lissie – The Longest Road (Deadmau5 Remix)
8. What’s your favorite tune of all time?
Gabriel & Dresden – Tracking Treasure Down (Club Mix)
9. When all the partying is over how do you like to chill out?
I like to spend time with my family, travel and be by any beach/pool.
10. So how is the DC party scene in your eyes?
The DC party scene is finally starting to come around. With new venues (hotels, restaurants, lounges and clubs) opening all the time, you can pretty much find anything you’re interested in.
11. Vinyl’s or Cd’s and why?
CD’s are what I learned on, but I’ve been using Traktor Scratch Pro for the past year. It’s the most powerful tool in house music right now.
12. Funniest thing that ever happened at an event?
Ha! My friend was in from out of town and had a few too many drinks. I remember every time I looked over at him, he was more drunk. By the end of the night, he had no shirt on and was dancing in between two girls. Hilarious!
13. Other DJs you like?
Deadmau5, Eric Prydz, Dirty South, Sebastien Leger, John Dahlback, Chris Lake, Jean Elan and Armin van Buuren.
14. Who else is doing big things in the DC music scene?
The Kreamdip guys (Steve DiPietro & Omar Karim) are always up to something good. Good guys, who always rock the house.
15. What do you do outside of the club music scene?
I am involved in some real estate ventures and I recently launched a startup social network for litigation support professionals called MyLegal.com
16. Whats your favorite Drink?
Crown & Ginger
17. What advice would you give to up and coming DJs?
Take the time to learn the craft of beat matching and mixing. There are plenty of computer based programs that will do a lot of the work for you, but that’s not how you want to be known in the industry. Plus, if your computer ever crashes and you don’t know how to beat match, you’re screwed.
18. When you play is it a pre planned set?
No, I never know what I am going to play at the beginning of the night. Part of being a good DJ is having the ability to read the crowd. If you have a pre planned set, it makes it hard to stray away from it if the crowd isn’t responding to what you’re playing.
19. What’s your favorite place for music around the world?
I can only speak for countries/states that I have actually visited.
Internationally: Toronto, Norway & Sydney
Stateside: Boston, NYC & DC
20. Anything else you want to say? Any shout outs?
My family (Joe, Lisa, Joseph, Nico, Julz & Tony) for all of their love and support.
J:cee (http://ww.dj-jcee.com) who taught me everything there is to know about spinning.
Mood Bacho (http://www.bahadesigngroup.com/) who gave me my first shot as a DJ.
Steve DiPietro (http://www.myspace.com/stevdip) who has been a mentor and has been instrumental in showing me the ropes in regards to producing.
Sofien from George’s on 28th and M for keeping me well fed.
Eric Lund from E. Lund Events (http://www.elundevents.com)
Shane Tabaka (http://shanetabaka.blogspot.com/) for my flyer designs and great opening sets.
DJ George B (http://www.djgeorgeb.com)
And, most importantly, a big thanks to everyone who comes out to support me. It truly means a lot!
21. If you could stage a party anywhere, where would you choose?
On an island. There is nothing better than good house music, good weather and beautiful people on a beach.
22. How do you see the DC scene 5 years from now?
DC is ever evolving. It’s only going to get better.
23.If you had a time machine what year would you go back to and why?
Probably the 70’s during the Disco era. I bet those times were out of control! Plus, I think House music is the modern day Disco.
24. What’s your favorite place to eat?
Love the steaks at the Capital Grille. The place is consistently great.
25. What’s your favorite Clothing Brand?
Diesel
