I love dim sum and am willing to try it anywhere, anytime so I ventured off to a far away land – 7 corners.  Across the street from Eden Center is Hong Kong Pearl Seafood Restaurant where we settled down for dim sum at around 2pm.  This is probably late in the game for the restaurant so I’m praying it gets better the next time I decide to try it.  Some things were good while others left more to be desired.  The restaurant is nice and clean but overall, I was pretty disappointed, mainly in selection and choices.  I was hoping for clams which never came out as well as the standard shrimp dumplings.  Other things were missing but my head draws a blank. Here is a review of things I did order.

Cheung Fun – I enjoyed it but I do like this at most dim sum restaurants. Shrimp is my favorite.

Siu Mai – No complaints here but I’m no expert.
Fung Jeow (chicken’s feet) – Below average. I don’t know what to say, it just wasn’t really good like New Fortune.

Taro cake – Can you really mess this up?

Gai lan (chinese broccoli) – A highlight of the meal but we had to order this. I’m pretty sure you always need to order this but I could very well be wrong.

Char siu (BBQ pork bun) – I thought it was okay but my guests hated it. Every bakery in NYC Chinatown would make this better though.

Pai Gwut (steamed spare ribs in black bean sauce) – Oily and good as always. Here’s an interesting recipe that I’ll never try out.

Shrimp and xa xiu fried rice – Mediocre at best. I’m a big fan of bean sprouts in my fried rice and this was a weak attempt. Lacked flavor and I had to add soy sauce as well. This is not on the dim sum carts btw.

Hong Kong Pearl is located at 6286 Arlington Blvd, Falls Church, VA 22044
