I have walked past Circa in Dupont Circle many times, but never stopped in. Now that there is one in Clarendon, it was the first restaurant I thought of when dinner time came around. So last Saturday my family and I really decided to check it out and we really enjoyed it.
We walked into Circa at about 6:30 and since it was pretty nice that day, we decided to sit outside. The place is beautiful inside, you walk right into the round circular bar and a beautiful setting. We got seated right away and our waiter came by a couple of minutes after. The drink menu at Circa was pretty interesting and extensive, so we decided to order a couple. We got a watermelon cooler, a pomegranate martini, and some beers which were all good. For our appetizer we got the shotgun shrimp and the calamari frito misto. The shotgun shrimp are flash fried shrimp tossed in a sweet and spicy chili glaze over an Asian slaw with haricot verts(string beans). The shrimp were pretty good and had a nice light spice to them. The calamari frito misto flash fried calamari with breaded squash, jalapeños, and garbanzo beans with a spicy marinara dipping sauce. The calamari was great having the jalapeños and garbanzo beans added some interesting and tasty flavor. For my entree I got the Atlantic Salmon served over broccoli pesto risotto topped with a warm bacon vinaigrette. It was really fantastic, the fish was cooked perfectly and the risotto was just as wonderful. My girlfriend got the jumbo carmelized scallops, I only had one bite, but they were pretty fantastic as well. The prices were very reasonable for the quality of food you get, the entrees are anywhere from 18-25 which is not so bad.
I had a really good experience at Circa the quality food, good service, and a great location. Circa is a nice addition to Clarendon, I will be going back for their good drinks and even better food.
