Made a pit stop at DC Brau today to refill some growlers and came across the now two month old Chupacabra Taqueria. Having seen the whiteboard menu, theres a bit of everything for all taco fans alike. Appeasing the vegetarian and vegan crowd is a yellow squash, black bean, jalapeno and spicy toasted pumpkin seed hash like taco. For the rest of us omnivores, the selection ranges from the Puerto Rican influenced Pollo Sofrito, the vertical spit Al Pastor and finally, the short rib Barbacoa. As seen on the menu are the usual sides of chips, avocado (or guacamole) and a chicken tortilla soup to warm our bellies
I went with a tall order consisting of two parts Al Pastor and one part Pollo Sofrito. The chicken was amazingly moist and the roughly chopped pieces of protein and veggies made me think El Chilango has a worthy DC rival. Purists may state otherwise, but the taste will definitely make one a repeat customer. Being a huge fan of the swine, the citrusy Al Pastor was my favorite between the two meat selections ordered.
For those interested in tasting Chupacabra’s tasty selections, follow their Twitter and become a fan on Facebook. On a side note, I wish I could’ve stayed for the Co2 tank refill for DC Brau’s latest draft, Thyme after Thyme. I did however head back to DCSocialite headquarters with 64 oz’s of Citizen and Public goodness.
