By recommendation from a coworker, a few of us paid a visit to Buzz Bakery Coffee and Lounge in Ballston. Adorned with pastel colors, maple wood furnishing and minimal iconography, Buzz Bakery is a very inviting space. But on top of being a lazy Sunday kind of spot, Buzz also serves up breakfast, on the go meals, prepared cookie dough (in the fridge), frozen treats, cold and hot beverages.
Browsing through a selection of ice cream, fresh squeezed juices and baked sweets, we opted for the zucchini whoopie pie, a pint of pistachio-fudge ripple ice cream, a package of chocolate cookies and a chocolate covered banana popsicle. Given an empty stomach, we probably could’ve bought a few more items or at least sat and ate what we bought in-house. However, food coma was kicking in and we needed all the energy we had to return to a couch asap.
We were all excited about the zucchini whoopie pie so that was the first item to taste and boy did it exceed expectations. Moist, savory and sweet all in one totally sharable package. Next up was the chocolate covered banana popsicle. The pairing of chocolate and banana slices is like my love for cupcakes, it’s just not there. I can state that the bar is presented well and the bananas taste wholesome, but I wouldn’t go back for seconds. The final item we tasted was the pistachio-fudge ripple ice cream. This was a winner for team gluttonous as there was a good balance of fudge and pistachio flavored ice cream. I don’t see myself buying a cupcake anytime soon during my lunch hours, but I may pay a visit to Buzz as soon as tomorrow morning for a Breakfast Brioche.
